Tardy Green Friday- Rain vs. Clothesline

So how in the world are you supposed to have a clothesline when it constantly rains in West Michigan?  My goodness!  Looks like tomorrow, bright and early, I am off to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to get a couple drying racks.  Sadly, I do not own one.  Never fear, in the name frugality I have plenty of 20% off coupons.  OHHHH better yet, Linens and Things is going out of business, maybe I can get some on clearance!

Back to the clothesline I am trying to manage.   I have successfully reduced my water bill 33% this past quarter just by being more efficient around the house with laundry and showering (now wait before you think I am stinky).  I have been working out five out of seven days a week and showering at the gym.  We have been limiting our dishwasher running to once per day ( we were ridiculous).  We have reduced our laundry by making some simple sacrafices changes.  They are as follows:

-Husband and I two towels per week for showering

-Kids pajamas wear at least two times (if there is no spilled syrup or milk from breakfast on them)

-Sheets once a month (I hope that is not gross)

By these simple changes ( and we have underground sprinkling) our water bill was greatly reduced and water was conserved.  So now my focus is on the gas bill, hence the clothesline ( I am also turning a light shade of green-maybe Seagrass as Crayola would say).  I was directed to this challenge from Big Binder at Gift of Green.

I have started at a novice and I am aiming towards intermediate.  I have got to get the fabric softener thing down and be brave.  So stay tuned for more Clothesline talk, it really is my obsession at the moment.

You are doing awesome!! I have yet to hang a line outside, that’s way too much work to carry it ALL the way upstairs, and ALL the way outside, and then when you’re done, do it in reverse. I like having it all right there, 2 steps from my washing machine. Fine line between laziness and efficiency, my friend 🙂

Excellent! Thanks for posting some ideas about reducing the amount of clothing and linens that need to be washed in the first place – we are rather ridiculous when it comes to towels.
